The original recipe for prinsesstårta first appeared in a 1948 cookbook. The cake was originally called grön tårta (green cake) due to its covering of green marzipan, but was given the name prinsesstårta or "princess cake" because the Swedish princesses of the day were said to have been especially fond of the cake.

Add a slice of this cake for a delicious Valentine's treat. This elegant cake features three layers of light sponge and rich vanilla custard cream, complemented by a luscious homemade raspberry jam. Enveloped in a delicate blanket of Danish marzipan and crowned with marzipan roses and dusting of icing sugar, each bite promises pure satisfaction.
